Simply choose the type of bassoon, cane diameter and length, and gouge diameter. There are many sets available, and they can all be used in the same base set.
The gouger gouges the inside of the cane to a specific diameter and adjustable thickness. The combination of cane diameter and gouge diameter defines the difference in thickness between the middle and the sides. The cane is hold by the bed set which is made for a certain cane diameter and length. The carriage set holds the knife which defines the gouge diameter. The guillotine to cut the cane is part of the gouger. The thickness in the middle of the gouged cane is adjustable.
The gouger is very stable which assures high accuracy, even under the high forces of the gouging process. To avoid the gouger from moving during gouging, it can be fixed to a table or workbench. The modular design makes it possible to use the gouger for all types of bassoon cane like cane for: bassoon, contra bassoon, contraforte, and baroque bassoon. If you want to use the gouger for more than one type of bassoon cane, you only need to buy an extra bed set and/or carriage set.
